Born in Damascus, M. HOSAM JIROUDY graduated with a degree in architecture from the University of Damascus in the year 2000. During his postgraduate research he practiced with Abdel-Wahed EI-Wakil, a central figure in Islamic architecture and traditional structures. In 2010 he went into private practice, working to transform human capacities and material properties into a tuned expression of local culture. His traditional work and research, dedicated to structural masonry design and construction, include urban planning, mosques, public and private buildings, and rural dwellings, for projects around the Arab world and internationally.
